Suzuki’s method of acting training: Acting workshop with Marcos Martinez

September 27–28, 2025 | Prague

In cooperation with the Department of Nonverbal Theater at HAMU and with the support of the State Fund for Culture, we are bringing to Prague for the second time in exactly twenty years an exceptional two-day workshop focused on the Suzuki Actor Training Method—an intensive physical acting technique that develops stage presence, breathing, inner energy, concentration, and conscious work with the body.

The workshop will be led by Marcos Martinez, an experienced American actor and teacher with more than thirty years of experience in this method, a graduate of the prestigious Juilliard School, and a collaborator of Tadashi Suzuki, the founder of this technique. Marcos Martinez is also an active theater and television actor (e.g., Better Call Saul, Roswell, The Cleaning Lady) and an inspiring teacher who achieved extraordinary success with this workshop in Prague twenty years ago.

The Suzuki method is based on traditional forms of Japanese theater and emphasizes footwork, body stability, energy conservation, and quality of movement. Movement is connected with voice, text, and inner experience. Participants learn how to be “present with their whole body” on stage—consciously, intensely, and with concentration.

The workshop is intended for actors, dancers, performers, and art school students who want to deepen their physical work on stage, discover new approaches to acting, and intensify their stage presence.
