Here and now. The physical stand-up of the artistic duo B&B will premiere at the Plum Yard

The artistic duo B&B consisting of performers Barbora Ješutová and Barbora Nechanická is preparing a physical stand-up called Here and Now, which will premiere on 8 June 2024 at Plum Yard under the auspices of the production platform ProFitArt. The authors turn the well-known format of stand-up inside out and play out comic situations with movement. However, with humorous detachment they make visible the oppressive feeling we all know well – the fear of missing something, of being irretrievably behind.

“Barboras. They’re always missing something. Or at least they’re always afraid they might miss something. That they’re not keeping up with everything they want to. That they won’t be as funny as they want to be. That they won’t satisfy everyone the way they want to. And so they’re determined to make it in yoga, bowling and Tinder. They say you just have to be in the here and now. But how can you be there in a minute?”

The theatre duo B&B consists of performers Barbora Ješutová and Barbora Nechanická. Both are graduates of Nonverbal Theatre at the Academy of Performing Arts in Prague and have extensive experience in movement theatre: together they starred in the film Ephemera (2021) by the ensemble Farm in the Cave, with whom Barbora Ješutová has been working continuously since 2018 and performs in the production Commander (2022). She has also collaborated as a performer with Veronika Knytlová and Continuo Theatre.

Barbora Nechanická works not only in the field of physical theatre, where she has collaborated, for example, with choreographer Lenka Vagnerová, French choreographer Lionel Menard, but also in the field of drama, where she has participated in the movement component of several productions, for example, at the Theatre in Dlouhá, the East Bohemian Theatre in Pardubice or the Drama Studio in Ústí nad Labem.

In the production Here and Now, the performers deal with the phenomenon of FOMO, the fear of missing out, the fear of missing something. “FOMO can be described as a kind of anxiety that people experience for fear of missing an interesting opportunity that others are taking advantage of. It’s like playing “chair game” every day, where we are forced to run around in circles, anxious to see if there will be an “empty chair” – the stress is caused by the knowledge that if we are not nimble and attentive enough, there will be no room left for us and we will be eliminated from the game. FOMO is clearly contributed to by today’s fast-paced times and social networking sites, where “disabled” people spend hours of time every day, watching what activities others enjoy and how others are better and more efficient than themselves,” the performers describe.

The authors apply the FOMO principle to the various theatrical components of the production. They work with a blending of genres and draw from a variety of sources, be they texts, visual objects (paintings) or characters. Ludmila Ješutová directed the production with performers and authors Bára Nechanická and Bára Ješutová, as well as dramaturge Markéta Hrehorová, musician Sára Vosobová and set designer Marcela Záchenská. Here and Now will premiere on 8 June 2024 at the Plum Yard.
