For the Love of Dance

A celebration of Youth, Dance and Music. Baroque Dance from a Contemporary Perspective with Live Music.

Inspired by the eloquence of baroque dance, the energy of Antonín Reichenauer’s music and the beauty of baroque sculpture, Andrea Miltnerová has created a new work for ten dancers from the Czech Republic and Germany accompanied by Marek Štryncl’s Musica Florea ensemble.

The performance was born out of Andrea’s desire to share her passion for and knowledge of baroque dance with a new generation of dancers, many of whom had no previous experience of the genre or fundamental awareness of central Europe’s rich cultural heritage of the baroque period. She also wished to show both them and the public that baroque dance is not merely a fascinating historic dance form which belongs to the past, but that it can be as relevant and powerful today as any contemporary dance style.

The project also presented a wonderful opportunity for cross border cooperation. On the initiative of producer Šárka Pavelková (ProFitArt) young professional dancers from Prague and Nuremberg were invited to take part, to establish and strengthen cultural and personal ties between the regions of Bohemia and Bavaria, whose artistic and economic history have been so closely intertwined over the centuries.

Choreographer Andrea and conductor Marek would also like to draw attention to the wonderful music of Antonín Reichenauer (c. 1694 – 17th March 1730), a composer active in the Czech lands at the beginning of the 18th century.
